BARNSLEY RADIO STAR IS KING OF THE CARVERY

02 March 2008

Local celebrity Simon Hirst – otherwise known as Galaxy breakfast presenter Hirsty – was in Barnsley today to officially open the new Toby Carvery restaurant at Dodworth Interchange.

The popular DJ was invited to cut the red ribbon after launching a campaign on his Daily Dose radio show to get him the gig. When the team at Toby Carvery heard about Hirsty’s love for his Sunday roast, they knew he was the right man for the job and quickly signed him up.

Restaurant manager Netty Durrant said: "Hirsty is a much-loved character in Yorkshire so we're very pleased to have him declare our new restaurant officially open. And as he’s such a fan, we even gave him the honour of being the very first customer to tuck into our world-famous carvery deck and enjoy our delicious freshly prepared and cooked three roast meats and eight veg."

A Barnsley lad, Hirsty lives just around the corner from the new restaurant and plans to become a regular. "You can't beat a good carvery," he said. "I've always championed Toby so I'm very pleased that being a fan has finally paid off!"
